Amber child alert system backed by MEPs

A majority of MEPs in the European Parliament have backed calls, supported by Gerry and Kate McCann, for the introduction an EU-wide missing child alert system similar to the USA's Amber Alert scheme.

Rules on groups will protect diversity of debate

The European Parliament have voted in favour of adopting my proposed rules on the size of groups, which will increase the minimum amount of Members required to form a group while offering greater protection to small groups that do pass the new threshold of 25.

Ireland has said No

The result of the Irish referendum is a clear vote against the Lisbon Treaty. It is obviously disappointing news but 27 countries previously agreed the EU needs reform and all countries must again now work together to find an agreement suitable to the Irish people and all other member states.

EU set to take action against directory scams

The European City Guide and other directory scams have been the scourge of small businesses for years and the European Parliament's major debate on the issue is now pressuring the Commission into expanding consumer protection law to cover businesses from these misleading "contracts".

All you need to know about the Lisbon Treaty

The European Parliament has adopted the Lisbon Treaty, while the House of Commons has rejected the push for a referendum and also voted in favour of the treaty.
